October 2008 Entries
UK RumFest is billed as Europe's only festival to celebrate my favorite spirit. It's a collection of rum producers, marketers, sellers, distributors, and consumers, all coming together in London to sample products and cocktails, listen to seminars on everything from the history of the spirit to matching it with chocolate, watch cocktail competitions, and just simply enjoy the world's most varied spirit.
RumFest is the brainchild of Ian Burrell, a restaurateur, mixologist, recording artist, basketball player, and fierce rum advocate (you can understand why I like him). Ian is known by many as the Rum Ambassador, and along with the...

Wow, seriously? It's been a year? I didn't even prepare a speech or anything. It's true, RumDood.com turns 1 year old today. It's been a crazy year too.
When I started this blog, I didn't really know what I wanted to do with it. My first post was about breaking both of my arms the day before I was in my best friend's wedding. A few weeks later I posted a restaurant review, followed by a random image post, and then - finally - a rum review.
Of course, all of those posts happened OVER a year ago. At the time,...

This month's Mixology Monday may turn out to be the most tragically hilarious collection of drinks ever. Stevi from Two At The Most has selected a topic that will pull back the polished veneer of elitist perfection that the cocktail blogosphere loves to wrap itself in when it comes to drinks. This month we expose the dirty little secret longings of bartenders and cocktail snobs the world over with "Guilty Pleasures."
We all have our guilty pleasures...those little things that make us happy that we know shouldn't. Whether it be watching some vapid reality TV show, enjoying the orange chicken at...

I know I know...there's no write-up for Tiki Central's Tiki Crawl 8 Day 1. That's because unlike certain slackers, I had to actually work on Thursday, so I missed the South Bay Day. I did make it up for Day 2's crawl through the city, and now I have to run to catch the bus for Day 3 in the East Bay.
Today's entry is VIDEO! Enjoy!

I don't often write about specific cocktails unless I'm working on a Mixology Monday post (one coming next week!) or if it's part of a rum review - and it's exceedingly rare that I post about a RumDood original cocktail. This week, however, has seen me rather busy with work and preparations for the dizzying month ahead. I've got OC Weekly's "Best of OC Party" in Irvine tonight, Tiki Crawl 8 in San Francisco on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, MxMo and a review of Old Mill Rum for next week, a wedding, and then I get on a plane and...

I received an email today from Craig Mrusek (better known as Dr. Bamboo), informing me that the Queequeg chapter of the Fraternal Order of Moai is currently selling 200 special edition tiki mugs to raise money and awareness for MS. For $40US, you get a 12 ounce tiki mug, of which only 200 will be produced. On the back of the mug is an inscription detailing the chapter of FOM and the cause. Inside the mug you'll find a certificate of authenticity and a top secret drink recipe.
So please, if you're reading this, head on over to the site and...
